Second, at least one of the six would have kept a cool head, marshaled their resources knife, clothing, googles, life preserver, etc.

The "rope" idea didn't come up until halfway into the movie, and they just gave up on it after one try. They spend most of the movie staring straight at a square port in the side of the boat that no one tried to open.

Within the first 30 seconds of this scenario, any logical person would start to identify and repeatedly try every single anchor point to climb back in the boat.

Third, one guy trying to hack into the side of the boat with the knife would not have resulted in the putative boat owner's objection and ultimate death of the hack-er.

Totally contrived. Fourth, the so-called "mom" and "dad" in the water didn't seem too concerned about their baby back up on the ship. Any parent would be violently trying every second to get back on the boat.

But not these parents. Even when the dopey mom finally made it back on deck, she spends 30 seconds listening to and caressing her child's baby monitor instead of making a bee-line into the cabin.

Again, no one behaves like that. Fifth, the "dad's" death from hitting his head - contrived. When he's first injured, he's a total, unresponsive vegetable but still having the wherewithal to have held onto the knife.

Then 2 minutes later, he's coherently yelling at the yacht owner in the water. Look, he's either a vegetable from hitting his head or he isn't.

Sixth, who in their right mind much less a mom who is deathly afraid of water is going to take an infant onto a yacht. And could they have found a fatter baby?

Seventh, one of the girls taking off on her own to swim back to land. No one would go alone. Eighth, toward the end, the rain is pouring down and coming out two holes in the back of the boat like a water fountain.

Neither of the last 2 dummies thinks to take a drink. You can live without food for a month. You need water, and there won't be too many water fountains in the ocean.

But two appear, and they ignore it. Ninth, Johnny Handsome admits in the end that he's a total failure, works in a mail room and somehow stole his boss's yacht?

Does anyone believe this year-old super model works in a mail room? Guess he's got a week off from delivering mail to take his boss's yacht out for a spin.

Odd that such a failure who can't get past a mail room job is smart enough to know how to operate and navigate a super yacht in the ocean.

In short, were it not for all of the far-fetched contrivances and unnatural behavior, the movie could have been good. But it wasn't.

If I were in charge of approving scripts like this one, after the first or second time I verbally shouted "Oh, Bullsh t" and threw a full cup of coffee at the wall, there would be some re-writes.

This was a decent movie despite a raft of 1 star reviews. When six people who know Jack about boat safety go partying on a big yacht, stupid things happen and stupid decisions get made and snowball into a very bad situation.

And when it started pouring down rain, the survivors really should have made more of an effort to drink the FRESH water!

But other than that, I liked the characters and tension. If you like sharks, there are none to be found here.

The ending was unclear and left me wondering if anyone except the baby survived. But maybe that was the intent.

I guess I expected sharks because it's part I guess I expected sharks because it's part 2 to Open Water. There were no sharks. So if you want to spend money to watch people float in the ocean for 90 minutes, this is the movie for you.

It is easy to dump all over this movie. Not the greatest group of actors, and some rather stupid mistakes. And some real holes in the story.

But then, one has to ask how one would have approached the problem, which was that no boarding ladder was put over the side when they decided to take a swim.

So getting back on the yacht was a real problem. Dan had the yacht, and made sure it was not called a boat. But it turned out it was not his, and he was only a worker in the mailroom, and passed himself off as a millionaire.

So how did he get his sailing experience, since sailing a 75' yacht is not for weekend sailors? They got the idea of stringing together their swim suits to try and snag something on the yacht, to pull themselves up.

So why did not the lightest weight person try it first, or was the idea that strength was needed the main consideration? OK, so the choices really sucked.

But then one could put themselves in the situation, and wonder what other decisions would have been made.

And also, exposure by being in the ocean all those hours certainly would take a toll. So this movie is a survival story, and certainly not the worst ones out there for viewing.

So it is satisfying entertainment. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Report abuse. This movie dragged on forever like the 3.

As far as our Water Science site is concerned, they are pretty much interchangeable. I tend to think of creeks as the smallest of the three, with streams being in the middle, and rivers being the largest.

Of course, not all runoff ends up in rivers. Some of it evaporates on the journey downslope, can be diverted and used by people for their uses, and can even be lapped up by thirsty animals.

Rivers flow through valleys in the landscape with ridges of higher land separating the valleys. A river forms from water moving from a higher elevation to a lower elevation, all due to gravity.

In most landscapes the land is not perfectly flat—it slopes downhill in some direction. Flowing water finds its way downhill initially as small creeks.

As small creeks flow downhill they merge to form larger streams and rivers. Rivers eventually end up flowing into the oceans.

If people have built a dam to hinder a river's flow, the lake that forms is a reservoir. The river serves many purposes, from drinking water to wildlife habitat to a recreation spot for the whole city.

The phrase "river of life" is not just a random set of words. Rivers have been essential not only to humans, but to all life on earth, ever since life began.

Plants and animals grow and congregate around rivers simply because water is so essential to all life. It might seem that rivers happen to run through many cities in the world, but it is not that the rivers go through the city, but rather that the city was built and grew up around the river.

Are rivers one of your favorite places? Large rivers don't start off large at all, but are the result of much smaller tributaries, creeks, and streams combining, just as tiny capillaries in your body merge to form larger blood-carrying arteries and veins.

The mighty river featured in this image is called the Yarlung Tsangpo as it courses through the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China.

Credit : NASA. It is also true that most of the water flowing in rivers comes from precipitation runoff from the surrounding landscape watershed.

But, the water in a river doesn't all come from surface runoff. If a river bank happens to cut into this saturated layer, as most rivers do, then water will seep out of the ground into the river.

Look at the diagram below. The ground below the water table the blue area , is saturated, whereas the ground above the gray area is not.

Saturated, water-bearing materials often exist in horizontal layers beneath the land surface. Since rivers, in time, may cut vertically into the ground as they flow, the water-bearing layers of rock can become exposed on the river banks.

Thus, some of the water in rivers is attributed to flow coming out of the banks. This is why even during droughts there is usually some water in streams.

The "unsaturated zone" above the water table the gray area still contains water after all, plants' roots live in this area , but it is not totally saturated with water.

You can see this in the two drawings at the bottom of the diagram, which show a close-up of how water is stored in-between underground rock particles.

Like everything else on and in the Earth, water obeys the rules of gravity and tries to get to the center of the Earth did you imagine that every molecule in your body is trying to do this, also?

So, the water in rivers flows downhill, with the ultimate goal of flowing into the oceans, which are at sea level. River water may end up in a lake or reservoir, in a pipe aimed at Farmer Joe's corn stalks, in a local swimming pool, or in your drinking glass, but much of it eventually ends up back in the oceans , where it rejoins the water cycle, which is ALWAYS in progress.

Endpoint of the Colorado River, Mexico. Less than 80 years ago, the mighty Colorado River flowed unhindered from northern Colorado through the Grand Canyon, Arizona, and Mexico before pouring into the Gulf of California.

But as this NASA Earth Observatory satellite photo from September shows, irrigation and urban water needs now prevent the river from reaching its final destination.

Rather, the Colorado River just disappears into the desert sands. The Colorado River can be seen in dark blue at the topmost central part of this image.

The river comes to an end just south of the multicolored patchwork of farmlands in the northwestern corner of the image and then fans out at the base of the Sierra de Juarez Mountains.

Only about 10 percent of all the water that flows into the Colorado River makes it into Mexico and most of that is used by the Mexican people for farming.

One river that doesn't participate anymore in this natural water-cycle process is the mighty Colorado River, flowing from Colorado to the Gulf of California in Mexico.
