Was die Nacht vorgefallen ist wissen die 3 nicht mehr, nun versuchen sie herauszufinden, was hier passiert ist. Der Film ist von Anfang an totaler Müll, die Schauspieler sind mit die Schlimmsten, die ich je gesehen habe.

Jede Figur ist so…. Ruggero Deodato will forever be known for creating Cannibal Holocaust and while his heyday was really in the 60s and 70s, his seriously nasty classic paved the way for not only the splatter wave of the 80s but was also essentially ground zero for the Found Footage movement.

He's been working ever since but really hasn't made a horror film since the 90s. So this is kinda out of nowhere. Ruggero was almost 80 when he made this but he has not lost his willingness to provoke.

Nobody gets eaten here, but this is still a vicious, bloody, over the top film. It makes almost no sense, and none of the characters are remotely like any actual human being….

Dachte man bisher Cannibal Holocaust sei der traumatischste Film von Deodato, sollte man noch einmal darüber nachdenken, denn Ballad in Blood ist weitaus verstörender, wenn auch aus einem ganz anderen Grund: Der Streifen stellt den Tiefpunkt der Karriere eines der berüchtigsten italienischen Regisseure dar.

If you think that's all that Deodato has had to offer during his long career however then you are quite wrong.

He has done work in several genres and a film I personally think is a lot of fun is his poliziotteschi movie Live Like a Man, Die Like a Cop. So when Deodato takes a pause from movie cameos and convention visits to deliver a new full length movie in the genre, I get a bit excited.

This should be different as Deodato is not a director like Lamberto…. Ballad in Blood probably gets more of a pass just on Deodato's track record.

But this film sucks. A whodunit where all the characters are so fucked to remember their own names let along piece together a murder mystery.

Der Film hätte eine schöne Whodunnit-Geschichte werden können, aber Deodato ist es offensichtlich und unverständlicherweise wichtiger, immer genug Titten im Bild zu haben und die Darsteller völlig absurde und bescheuerte Dinge tun zu lassen, deren Unverständlichkeit auch mit dem dauerhaft vorherrschenden Drogenrausch nicht zu erklären ist.

Claudio Simonettis Musik sticht da noch mit am positivsten hervor, obwohl die auch nicht im Mindesten eine Konkurrenz für seine bisherigen Meisterwerke darstellt.

Wenn ich noch etwas Positives bemerken müsste, würde ich die optische Ähnlichkeit der Hauptdarstellerin mit Barbara Magnolfi erwähnen, aber das rettet den Film leider auch nicht.

Scusi Ruggero, deine früheren Werke werden immer Bestandteil meiner filmischen Schatztruhe sein, aber das hier war nix.

But, some movies you need to watch anyway, especially when it's directed by Ruggero "so-much-more-than-the-guy-who-made-the-masterpiece-Cannibal-Holocaust" Deodato.

I have to say that despite all the negative I still had some hope for this one. There's tons of nudity, almost every person in it….

But let's suppose you are a filmmaker, and your goal is to portray as unsentimentally as possible, the plight of three millennials in Europe who are so self-absorbed, so fucked up on drugs and alcohol, so stupid, and so dully obsessed with sex and pleasure, that they don't even realize that they are responsible for the rape and murder of a dead woman who crashes in through their glass ceiling.

So I sort of weirdly admire it. There are no protagonists, none at all, and I think most people can't handle that.

But it's the story of a lot of people in this world, only on steroids. Duke wakes up and discovers the dead body of Elizabeth but none of the three survivors know what happened.

Pretty soon they try to uncover how Elizabeth ended up with a slashed throat but the tension begins to make all three crack.

It's clear that Deodato was working with a very small budget and I must admit that the…. Ruggero Deodatos erster Spielfilm seit über zwanzig Jahren ist ein ziemlich verrücktes Teil geworden.
