I wont spoil it for anyone that has not seen it yet but all I can say just get it as its a laugh and you will enjoy it.
Now the quality on blu ray is good. The quality of facial features and other things is more than decent. Compared to dvd its way better.

Typically humour is at the centre of the plot although this is about gangsters! Chilly Palmer Travolta a gangster whose ambition is to write for the movies, so moves frm Florida to Hollywood to achieve this but things do not go smoothly as his past catches up with him.
A splendid movie. Bought this to replace the video that had worn out. We'd watched it so much it gave up so had to get a replacement.

The story follows a Miami mobster who goes to LA to collect some outstanding debts, and in the process becomes a movie producer.
The comedy is also well-done, with some witty dialog and clever gags. Yet, the plot is a little cluttered and hard to follow are times.
Also, some of the characters are underdeveloped and seemingly pop in and out of the film without much explanation.

Jan 21, This is a pretty good movie that time has simply not been kind to. I don't know, but it never seemed to work as well for me as it, seemingly, did for others who review films professionally.
While it does have a good cast, with some of John Travolta's best work ever, and a script that subverts tropes and satirizes what it takes to make it in this business, I can't help but feel that its head is way up its own ass.

Complicated and not funny - despite the well-known actors. Also, the film's title is misleading, because most of the movie is not about getting "Shorty".
Yet, the movie's producers had to call the story something. So, for most of the movie, I kept wondering when it was going to get around to doing what the title implied.
Finally, the script was such a dud, that it turned out to be a "who cares" kind of story; none of the characters were likeable.
So, I found myself not giving a damn, for any of them and what they were doing! Thus, by the end of "Get Shorty", I was feeling as though I had wasted both my time and money!
Good movie if you like Elmore Leonard's books. Wasn't sure I'd like John Travolta, but he played the part well. Very fine all round movie.

John Travolta and Danny DeVito at their funniest. Travolta is a mafia fixer who is sent to Los Angeles to round up a dry cleaner who has absconded with some money.
Once in L. DelRoy Lindo and James Gandolfini pre-Sopranos are bumbling criminals and the whole thing is fun to watch even after ten times or more.
This is one of my all time favorite comedies. If you appreciate Elmore Leonard, he wrote the story, and this is one of his favorite adaptations of his own work - which were few and far in between.
I would point out excellent characters and the actors who played them, but it was a high quality cast with wonderfully constructed characters.
The plot is fun, the dialogue, in typical Elmore Leonard fashion, is witty and believable. This is one movie that's well worth the time.
Get Shorty was based off of an Elmore Leonard book of the same name and director Barry Sonnenfeld did a fine job with that source material.
The film is a satire of Hollywood and the gangster genre. Deloy Lindo as Bo Catlett is a small time gangster that Zimm owes money too that wants in on the film industry as well.
This is a great ensemble cast that does a great job playing off each other. Barboni for instance, steals a leather coat that Chili is very fond of.
Barboni then tries to get revenge, but Chili grazes a bullet off his head. Barboni ends up with bandages all over his face and looks like a buffoon.
Barboni always plays the tough guy, but does it over the top that you almost laugh at him. There are also plenty of moments making fun of Hollywood.
Chili and Weir for instance talk about method acting on how to play a loan shark. At the same time it still maintains the allure of the city.
Chili for instance absolutely loves the movies. Another time he beats up an enforcer and then asks him what movies he worked in as a stunt man because he wants to hear about the business so much.
Get Shorty is a lot of fun. I loved it when it first came out in the theaters and it still holds up to this day. Still fresh and sharp after all these years.
The Elmore Leonard dialogue still snaps and beers clear of cliche. The actors are perfectly cast. John Lurie's excellent score gives the film a swinging movement to the plot a variant on the comic caper genre that so many 80s and 90s movies lack.
Enjoyed the film when it came out but figured there would be many more good films where that came from. Alas, that wasn't the case. Glad to be able to return to this for an entertaining few hours.
One of the few films based on an Elmore Leonard novel that succeeds in capturing the author's humor. The key is that all the characters are despicable and stupid.
What's really funny here is how little difference there is between being a loan shark in Miami and a movie producer, except perhaps that the former is cooler.
The criminals in LA aspire to being in the movies--and some succeed with the skills they have honed in their former profession.
Given the characters, the viewer expects they will to try to "get" shorty by killing. Instead, they are trying to sign him to a film.
