Not a particularly difficult achievement but a rare one. The movie actually matched the content of the game while trimming things up so as to not bog you down in too much game play details.
The characters of Ratchet, Clank, and Quark pretty much matched what anyone familiar with the series would expect, While I found Drek and Nefarious to be more entertaining for the most part then their game counterparts.
And the other characters were at least a little funny if not fully developed beyond basic personality trait.
I thought the animation was good and there was a lot of energy to the characters' movement. Could have been more energy but it was satisfactory.
There are three things I wish the movie had done a better job of showing. First is the friendship between Ratchet and Clank.
As it is I feel that the two having a friendship is believable, but not the sort of "Best Friends that see each other through thick and thin" type friendship that I am used to associating with them from my familiarity with the franchise.
I also feel that the Ratchet character should have been a bit more serious about being a Galactic Ranger, but he is a guy getting the opportunity to hang out with his life-long heroes so his actions are in character.
Second, there should have been more actions scenes focusing on Ratchet, particularly with him using his Omni-Wrench. It is his signature weapons and at the moment I can only recall one instance where he used it.
Third is the Plumber. The Plumber was one of the most important and endearing NPCs and one of the most prolific. That he was only used for that Ferris Buhler after credit joke was a little disappointing.
I loved the games and the humor and the storytelling, so I was pleasantly surprised to find a lot of the same game experience reflected in the film.
The voice acting is excellent. In some ways it was like returning to old friends and rediscovering their origin stories. There's some new content including characters here, so I had to reorient slightly.
The movie moved right along and had some in jokes for the fans of many years, something else I appreciated. This is one video game based film that isn't a disappointment.
Great graphics, great voice cast, interesting enough plotting and characterizations. Sometimes it almost moved a little quickly, but there's a little bit of something for just about everyone here.

There was something missing though overall where it just didn't feel like it reached the greatness that it was reaching for.
It felt like a bunch of game cut-scenes pasted together sometimes I guess that's what you get from a video game company making a movie.
It was still cohesive, just not amazing. I would have loved to see more of the weapons from the games being utilized in the movie more effectively.

I have to admit - I approached this film with much trepidation after the critics trashed it. I have three PS consoles thanks to this franchise, so I had to give the film a go And it's really good!
Almost certainly it will make more of an impact with people familiar with the games, but as an enjoyable family film with plenty of laughs I really recommend it.
And it's mercifully free of bodily-function-dependent humour which is starting to become something of a rarity in modern action films.

With that said while the cast was good and they did keep the basics from the game and a few good laughs it goes down hill from there.
I was unimpressed with the story line I feel it took away more then it added and I personally feel it made no sense to have the betrayal or having ratchet join the rangers basically at the get go.
