Films of this caliber were very much all the rage in the 80s and much of the 90s and to a certain extent the early s in the direct to video market And they still are for the most part, for better or worse.

Sure thebhsitory may not be accurate, the sets may not be all that great and the effects may be a bit weird and unnecessary at times, and some of the acting is mixed, the brazen batshit insanity of the concept and aheer unadulterated entertainment value onhand more than makes up for it.

Dominic Purcell is one of my favorite actors, ever since infirst saw him in the short lived series John Doe and then saw him in Prison Break, ive folllowed his career as he has gone on to play Dracula in Blade Trinity and currently is doing fabulously as HeatWave on Legends of Tomorrow.

He is in the same mold of action stars as Stallone and Schwarzenegger, solid and rugged and good looming and can do great action stuff as well as comedy but wont be winning any Oscars any time soon for nuanced acting And thats fine.

The rest of the cast do a great job with what they got, and special kudos to Natassia Malthe. She is always a delight to see in B grade films of this caliber.

There is an aesthetic to this film very much onpar with the kind of over the top bombast usually associated with Power Metal bands. In fact any still shot taken from the opening credit sequence could be used as an album cover for Power Metal bands.

Is it a perfect film, not really. Is it an entertaining film? Hell yeah. Its the sort of film you show in the company of friends while having pizza and beer.

Thor's Hammer looks like a fiberglass handled minecraft axe and could be a small division III college theater prop or a bunch of toilet paper painted silver, can't tell, need beer.

I glanced at the reviews and decided to watch Vikingdom after it had been in my viewing queue for far to long.

The love it of hate it reviews had lowered my expectations going in. So being as this is a real movie with a consistent plot, actors and scenes consistent with that plot, and lots of crazy action, I was pleasantly surprised to find in the end that Vikindom includes several very thoughtful plot twists and does pull the many foreshadowed events together in the end.

This is not a masterpiece as parts of the animation get grainy and the script could have been cleaned up. The actors delivered many of their roles like they had played this Dungeons and Dragons session before which I think detracted from what they were trying to do here.

I saw a movie trying to put a new twist on parts of the Norse mythology while examining the philosophical question of the degree to which humans create their gods themselves.

Apparently that concept has they capacity to a vitriolic review. I think there was a bit more Loki in this Thor than standard versions of the mythology hold But, the druid acted entirely consistent and with typical wizardly knowledge.

Ultimately, I appreciated this movie tell a complete story using some well know tropes and character types for their own unique to this picture production value.

And ultimately the fact that this story is a bit different is well addressed with Eirick's role he undertakes at the end.

We did get to hear there why this story is a bit different than expected. They still have a job to do. Both my wife and I really like Viking movies and series.

There was nothing in this to like. Make up was pathetic, acting mediocre and green screen galore. The way this movie portrays the Norse Gods is awful.

For example, Thor is a Protector of men and Midgard earth , and they have him as the main villain wanting to destroy Midgard with the help of Frey the fertility god, acting like a deceiver and trickster, which is generally Loki's role.

The movie itself has some pretty good costume work, but also some horrid costume work. Poor dialogue, poor acting, poor wigs everywhere.

Although some of the sets I thought were pretty nice, but then you switch to a scene where the set is horrible and cheesy.

If you are bored or have a nostalgia for 80's style fantasy romp, you can give it a go, otherwise just avoid it. I give it 2 stars because some of the fight scenes are actually pretty decent.
