The film is workmanlike in it's general execution and is a slave to it's genre tropes, but where it really excels is in it's ingeniously staged fight sequences Hollywood action directors could learn a thing or two from Florentine and the charisma of it's leads in Adkins and White.
A bone crunching good time. I always thought that sports sequels would be a bit more interesting if they focused on the losers rather than the winners.
A Rocky 2 that focused on Apollo Creed: an all-time great who just lost to a bum off the street would have been compelling.
And after Creed 2 I'm interested to see more about Victor Drago, who I was actually rooting for by the end of the film. I'm getting my wish with Undisputed 2, which follows the loser of Undisputed 1, played by Ving Rhames in the original film and Michael Jai White here.
Yeah yeah this isn't a nuanced drama about how a star deals with a fall from grace but is instead a martial arts…. Michael Jai White is a fine screen martial artist but he looks downright stilted next to Adkins' speed his goofy ouch faces don't help , and the fights, while cleanly covered and plentiful, are a little sluggish, lacking the pace and fluidity Florentine displays in earlier stuff like US SEALS 2.
Einer der wenigen Fälle, in welchem ein Teil 1 kaum noch interessiert. B-Movie, nicht mal ansatzweise so viel Budget, dafür aber eine 3erKombi die einem den Martial Arts-Schlüpper nass macht.
Der Look gefällt, besonders im Vergleich zu den Sequels. Da merkt man, dass das Geld noch lockerer sitzt.
Vielleicht werde ich ja alt, aber selbst bei der Klischeeszene am Ende bekomm ich noch dick Putenpelle.

Scott Adkins as Boyka is the star of the movie - all he wanted was to prove that he was the greatest fighter in the world, and I can respect that commitment.
Mark Ivanir as the Russian mafioso Gaga is deliciously duplicitous albeit slightly queer-coded but this isn't the movie's first or last cliche Stevie as a pitiful junkie mostly exists to give….
Scott Adkins makes an explosive impact in the movie that launched his career. Small, close quarters mma fights make for spectacular scenes with choreography that puts A-movies to shame.
Having started with Boyka: Undisputed 4 , the most recent entry in the series, and worked my way backwards, it's interesting to see that Yuri Boyka is actually the antagonist in part 2 before becoming the protagonist in parts 3 and 4.
Michael Jai White has some good fights as George "Iceman" Chapman with his boxing style, but they're fairly standard for action flicks.
Scott Adkins as Boyka gets more of the flashy moves with his mixed martial arts style and spinning jump kicks. However, their fights together are pretty fantastic and a real high point.
Iceman's story of redemption is familiar and not very interesting so the movie truly shines whenever Boyka is present.

The fight is long and intense, with flurries of combinations, grapples, and throws traded between the two.
Eventually, Chambers realizes that Boyka will not lose consciousness, will not submit, and will likely knock him out if the fight goes on too long.
Chambers alters his strategy and manages to get Boyka in a joint lock and ends the fight by breaking Boyka's leg, proving that he is the undisputed new champion of the prison.
Shortly thereafter, Chambers is released from prison and uses his winnings to buy Crot's freedom as well.
In a final scene, he wheels Crot to a train station to meet with his estranged niece in a happy reunion. Crot thanks Chambers for giving him the remainder of the winnings to start his life again, while Chambers expresses his gratitude for the help and training.
