What I love about Shaun of the Dead is that it's solidly in the zombie movie genre, complete with the right amount of blood and gore and terrifying mindless masses of the undead.
Its genius lies in balancing genuine scares and a palpable sense of dread, punctuated by sprinklings of lighthearted humor.
Other zombie movies have tried to be funny but ended up being over-the-top and ridiculous, in my opinion.
This one is smart and fun in all the right ways while also being ominous. It's a very hard balance to strike and this film manages it in a surprisingly skillful and effortless manner.
I watch nearly every movie I can find which features either of them, or both preferably. It's been cool to see them mature and nice to know they're no longer relegated just to buddy comedies anymore.
Coming across him in an action TV show made me feel warm and fuzzy like I was coming home. He provided welcome comic relief and it was nice to see him in a role where he's not playing a stupid, bumbling oaf well, not entirely anyway and his character is shown in martial arts combat!

That led to nothing but comedy. For example, when a zombie wanders into their living room they try all different kinds of methods to kill it including coach cushions, empty beer cans, and finally an ash tray that hits it in the head.
In another instance there are two zombies in their backyard and Shaun and Ed decide to throw records at them to try to kill them. Then their big plan is to go the Winchester as their safe place to wait out the apocalypse.
Like the classic zombie movies of George Romero it also pokes fun at modern society. During the credits for example it shows people working their jobs bored out of their brains, people walking slowing through the streets, others waiting for the bus all acting like they are already the undead.
When she tackles Shaun to the ground Ed takes a picture of them together. The ending plays on that theme that people are already acting like the walking dead as well.
Overall great movie with great laughs making fun of zombies. This is a funny movie. I don't watch zombie stuff, I really do not like all of the gore.

Then after it starts, he is so used to people being out of it, and the neighborhood's casual vandalism, that he walks by half a dozen or so zombies without noticing them.
I went back and watched the first half again, it was that good. My boyfriend told me this was funny so we decided to watch this. He ordered this without my knowledge on my account and made me sit through this absolutely ridiculous movie.
I normally like English humour but this movie was so awful, I spent the majority of it getting myself drunk so I wouldn't have to take it seriously.
Even after an entire bottle of wine I thought it was bad. Don't pay for it. I thought it was time to upgrade to Blu-ray.
