He has a disfigured face due to his run in with Lecter and acts very creepy. He wants revenge upon Lecter. Then the violence is much more graphic such as a video tape of Lecter biting the face of a nurse.
Finally, the movie is mostly cat and mouse as Starling is in the U. All together that makes Hannibal a total departure from Silence of the Lambs, and not half as good.
There is none of the intensity of the original. The scenes have been really well enacted. Some of the scenes might make you flinch, so if you are particularly squeamish, you might want to rethink your decision to watch this movie.
It is beautifully filmed with a talented cast. Anthony Hopkins reprises his character as the sophisticated Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
Julianne Moore does justice to the role of Clarice even more so than Jodie Foster in my opinion. This is the sort of big budget horror film that comes around only once every two years, so make it a point to see this movie!
One should not compare sequels to classics just as one should not pick a favorite child. I did not feel like this was designed to overthrow Silence of the Lambs.
This movie is good in its own right with some minor exceptions. I began to feel as if Dr. Lector is omiscient due to his foresight and last second counters.
Several times it is revealed that he is unlike the common criminal. He is far more deadly and sinister, seeking to make others suffer and feed on their pain as well as their organs.
His calculated reactions are too unbelievable and brought me out of the movie a couple times. However, the rest is great and the ending really left me full and satisfied.
This follow up to "Silence of the Lambs" is entertaining, although not as good as the first movie. By now, most everyone knows that Jody Foster refused to play the FBI agent Clarice Starling because she didn't like the direction this movie took the character.
Julianne Moore is harder and less vulnerable than Ms. Foster, but she does not do a bad job. I have read the book, but it has been a long time ago and I do think this movie sticks to the plot of the book fairly well.
Won't give away the spoiler at the end. One thing that always bugs me is that no matter where he is or who he is talking to, Hannibal is always 4 steps ahead.
I know he is supposed to be a genius, but he certainly gets around a lot without being recognized. I would give the movie a recommendation.

I think Amazon do mix up their reviews for different versions of the same product my review is on the 3 disc Exclusive Special Edition of 'Hannibal' consisting of 2 dvds and 1 cd.
The cd is a limited edition of by description and the sound is crisp and clear throughout and is a mesmerizing listen. Disc 1 has the film, minutes long with English subtitles.
In the accompanying leaflet Ridley Scott describes the theatrical release of the film as his 'director's cut' with no additions to it on this dvd.
Rather aloofly in my view he is quoted as saying that sometimes directors get it right the first time. Jack and Will along with Chiyoh arrive in Florence with different agendas for Hannibal while Detective Pazzi gets close.
Bedelia and Hannibal feel their time in Florence is coming to an end; Jack questions Will's loyalty. Hannibal has been imprisoned for three years at the Baltimore State Hospital when a new villain emerges in one Francis Dolarhyde.
Jack reaches out to Will to help him track down the brutal serial killer. The search for serial killer Francis Dolarhyde heats up as Will delves into dangerous territory.

And the show does present scenes of Hannibal preparing his meat in such a beautiful, almost loving way, that one can't help but get hungry. It easily bounces from police procedural to slasher to psychological horror to action and even to cooking program with ease, never missing a beat and never letting the audience down.
Hugh Dancy who I generally don't care about was surprisingly good, Lawrence Fishburne managed to remind me that he truly is an amazing actor and Mads Mikkelsen absolutely blew me away.
I cannot recommend this show highly enough. Though I would warn anyone who tends to be a bit squeamish when it comes to blood and gore that this show definitely pushes the boundaries of what can be shown on TV.

In my view it is a beautifully composed film with stunning cinematography throughout, a film that's hard to beat for sheer atmosphere from the wonderful Italian settings to the horror of torture and killings in America.
Sir Anthony Hopkins reprising his Hannibal role, Gary Oldman unrecognizable as Mason Verger, Ray Liotta smooth and slimy getting his comeuppance in one of the most disturbing scenes ever filmed, Julianne Moore is no Jodie Foster but is solid in her role as Clarice.
A totally marvelous and absorbing experience. English subtitles with the film. In my opinion the best Lecter film made so far.
